Apatite was accidentally discovered in 1788 by a little boy digging in the sand near an old gold mine in Southern Madagascar. Its name comes from the Greek word ‘apate’ which means deception. Apatite became popular in Jewelry for its striking petrol blue shades. Amazingly it was found among moon rocks brought back to Earth by Apollo astronauts.
